The only baby you’ll get is a food baby at Corduroy Palace — where caviar, condoms, and Picasso steal the show

This might be the most memorable headline I’ve ever written in my stint here at SETHLUI.com, and I’ve written a lot of headlines. Stay with me; the recently opened Corduroy Palace is one wild rollercoaster ride to introduce. This stylish New York-style fine dining restaurant boasts an array of rare wines, and an original Picasso lithograph… in their toilet, of all places.

Everything I’m writing about Corduroy Palace seems more unorthodox than the last, but let’s start with the caviar Xiao Long Bao (S$50), which is topped with shredded ginger, spring onions, and a generous dollop of pitch-black caviar. Of course, in a typical Baydoun-style, you can also expect a serving of caviar by a bump on your hand. All you need to do is pop it in your mouth for that truly luxurious experience of briny caviar, and chase it with a shot of tequila.

Make sure you wash your hands after, not just because we’re in a pandemic (duh). But just a heads up that Corduroy Palace houses the original lithograph of Pablo Picasso’s ‘Mother and Child’ sketch hanging on their bathroom door. It’s the last place that I would hang a Picasso, but to each their own.

I’ve never introduced a restaurant and then spend half the article talking about their bathroom, but they’ve got freebies for you to help yourself too. The bathroom at Corduroy Palace is stocked with condoms and keychains, both of which are exclusive, Corduroy Palace items. This doesn’t mean that you can hold up the bathroom line on date night after both of you go and wash the caviar bump off your hands. I mean, you can only admire that Picasso lithograph together for so long, right?

Speaking of date nights, Corduroy Palace sure doesn’t play around when it comes to wines. The wines are displayed in neon-lit chillers, where diners can pick their tipple of choice. The wines are categorised by their price tags, and range from a S$1,650 bottle of Premier Cru Classé from Bordeaux vineyard Château Mouton Rothschild, to more affordable options in the S$150 range.

Man—wackiest article I’ve written.
