The Daily Cut: Salad bowl that is less grassy & packs more flavours

I’ve never been a proponent of these so-called “healthy foods” because they are always too green, one-dimensional and in general, just never good. However, The Daily Cut at Tanjong Pagar has gone 180 on that theory of mine.

Daily Cut - interior

Founded in Singapore, The Daily Cut has redefined the fast-casual dining experience by offering nutritious, customisable meals that cater to a variety of dietary preferences and needs.

Customers tear off a strip of paper from which they pick and choose what they want.

What I tried at The Daily Cut

One of the standout features of The Daily Cut is its fully customisable menu with 3 different sizes of bowls – the Petite (S$10.50), Regular (S$14) and the Large (S$17.50).

Daily Cut - menu

Customers can build their own bowls by selecting a Base (such as mixed greens, quinoa, or brown rice), a Protein, and a variety of Supplements and Toppings. And of course to round things off, the Dressing.

This level of customisation ensures that meals can be tailored to suit individual dietary requirements, whether they are vegan, gluten-free, or following a specific calorie count.

The Large which is my go-to features 2 Bases, 2 Proteins, 3 Supplements, 1 topping and 1 Dressing. I feel that what really sets them apart from the rest is very apparent in the chicken.

Daily Cut - chicken patty

Chicken breast is usually easily ignored by other salad places but here at Daily Cut, this is juicy! Their Green Chilli Chicken Patties have a touch of heat and a herbaceous undertone which makes them pair perfectly with the Sweet Potatoes Base.

Daily Cut - chilli lime shrimp

If you are looking for something other than chicken, the Chilli Lime Shrimp is another great option. Chilli lime shrimp is a vibrant and flavourful dish that highlights the natural sweetness and brininess of succulent shrimp.

They are marinated in a zesty mixture of fresh lime juice, lime zest, garlic, chilli, cilantro, and olive oil, with a touch of honey or sugar to balance the flavours. The marinade infuses the shrimp with a tangy citrus brightness and a fiery kick from the chilli, creating a perfect harmony of flavours.

Daily Cut - roast beef

They also do offer a more atas Protein which is the Roast Beef. Sliced into wide strips, the Roast Beef however was a bit too dry for my liking. This could be perhaps due to the overcooking.

Daily Cut - 2 salad bowls

A key aspect of The Daily Cut’s flavour profile is the expert use of seasoning and marinades. Proteins and even vegetables are marinated with a variety of spices and herbs, infusing them with bold, enticing flavours.

Daily Cut - toppings

A testament to this is in the Sriracha Dusted Broccoli or the Maple Dijon Carrots. Simple ingredients that they could have easily just boiled to serve, Daily Cut has taken the effort to spice it up.

With the Broccoli, the sriracha gave a spicy and earthy depth to the overall grassier taste. On the other hand, the Maple Dijon Carrots were glazed with a layer of maple syrup and Dijon mustard concoction and elevated the carrots’ sweetness.

Daily Cut - sauces

If I were to nitpick, I would say that the portions for the Toppings and Dressings are too small. Initially, I was excited to be ordering Garlic Chips for its crunch and other layers of flavour to the entire salad bowl. However, there was very little of it that was given and I could barely see or taste any. Similarly, the dressing came in a small container and I felt that more could be given considering how dry the beef was.

Daily Cut - sweet potato

That said, for someone who loves strong, bold flavours, I recommend going for the Peri Peri Sauce. The sauce’s name comes from the Swahili word for “pepper,” and it is traditionally made from African bird’s eye chillies, which are known for their intense heat. The sauce features a vibrant, deep red or orange colour and a complex flavour profile that balances heat, acidity, and a touch of sweetness.

Did I also mention that The Daily Cut has its own website which provides detailed nutritional information for each component of their meals? Customers can easily access information about calorie counts, macronutrient breakdowns, and potential allergens. This commitment to transparency empowers customers to make informed choices about what they are eating.

Final Thoughts

The Daily Cut exemplifies how fast-casual dining can be both healthy and convenient. By offering customisable, nutritious meals made from high-quality ingredients, The Daily Cut has carved out a niche for itself in the competitive food industry.

Its commitment to health, transparency, and sustainability not only sets it apart but also aligns with the evolving preferences of today’s consumers. As more people seek out healthier dining options, The Daily Cut is a convenient and delicious option for anyone in the CBD.
