A Korean steak restaurant will close permanently after 6 years of operation. On 28 Jul, Dan’s Steaks Bar & Grill announced on social media that it will be ceasing operations soon, although the exact date of closure is not stated.

The post read, “With increasing competition all around us, it has become impossible to keep going sustainably.” It also mentioned rising rent, food prices and staffing costs.

When SETHLUI.com spoke to the founder of Dan’s Steaks Bar & Grill, former radio DJ Daniel Ong, he shared that the restaurant’s closure will prevent further losses and likely reduce his stress levels. Daniel plans to focus on being a wellness consultant, a job he previously juggled on the side.
Dan’s Steaks was established in 2020 during the Circuit Breaker period, with Daniel preparing steak for his family and friends. As more people heard about his steak, it became increasingly popular, inspiring Daniel to open a steak restaurant. During the business’s heyday, Dan’s Steaks was a chain of 4 restaurants. However, they shuttered one after another, and the Serangoon Gardens outlet is the last one standing.
As Dan’s Steaks Bar & Grill writes its final chapter, Daniel thanked customers for their support and encouraged them to visit the restaurant.
I recommend you go for 2 of Daniel’s personal favourites, the first of which is the Holy Cow Beef Ragu (S$22++). The dish is made with slow-cooked beef and red wine to create a caramelised meat flavour. For a rich beef flavour, I’ll opt for the Black Angus Ribeye (S$41++ for 260g, S$78++ for 600g), which impressed us with its beautiful marbling and melt-in-the-mouth tenderness.
The restaurant has also launched Dan’s Disappearing Deals, where a new promotion will be rolled out for 24 hours each day. If you’re visiting, don’t forget to check their ongoing promotion on their Instagram Stories!
