30 individuals have fallen ill as a result of food poisoning following their participation in a wedding reception hosted at St. Regis, located on Tanglin Road.
In response to inquiries made by The Straits Times, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) confirmed that none of the individuals who fell ill required hospitalisation following the event on 3 Sep 2023. However, The Straits Times reported that the bride was among those affected by the food poisoning.
SFA is currently investigating the incident with the Ministry of Health (MOH).
“Food safety is a joint responsibility. While the SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices,” the SFA said, adding that it “will not hesitate to take enforcement action against errant food operators”.

St. Regis has also launched an investigation after the hotel was alerted to reports of guests falling ill following a wedding lunch reception that took place in the Caroline’s Mansion Ballroom. The hotel’s hygiene officer will examine the food preparation process, said the spokesperson.
“We also provided food samples from the wedding reception for laboratory tests to be conducted by a third-party accredited food safety expert. The test results have been found to be in accordance with food safety guidelines.”
St. Regis will also be cooperating with the authorities on the investigation. The spokesperson emphasised the hotel’s strong commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, with the utmost concern for the well-being of their guests.
According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, common symptoms of food poisoning include diarrhoea, stomach pain or cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever.
Food poisoning may result from the consumption of food that has been tainted with chemicals, microorganisms, or their toxins. The time it takes for symptoms to appear can range from several hours to several days, depending on the quantity of contaminated food ingested.
