The much anticipated Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar has been confirmed to be taking place from 8 Mar to 9 Apr this year, in tandem with the fasting month of Ramadan commencing in Mar 2024.

Ramadan Geylang Serai Bazaar — Seating Area

This was announced by the Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development, Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, via a Facebook post on 12 Jan, in which he promised visitors “lots of food, shopping, entertainment, colourful lights and more” at the event.

Following the announcement by Associate Professor Faishal, BERITA Mediacorp revealed more details about the upcoming bazaar— for starters, Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2024 will have 500 stalls, with up to 150 of them selling food and drinks. All stalls are also required to have a halal certificate, a Muslim owner or must be recognised by a halal certification consultant.

Also, to make things more affordable for visitors, each stall is required to have at least 2 food products which are sold at S$3 each.

Compared to 2023, which housed 700 stalls, this year’s bazaar is smaller due to developmental works held around the Geylang Serai area.

Last year, the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar got caught up in some controversy when stall vendors complained the exorbitant rental prices they were expected to pay, leading to some of them struggling to turn a profit. According to the organisers of the 2023 bazaar, rental prices for F&B stalls costed from S$14,000 to S$25,000 per month.

In response to this, the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar rental fees will be capped at S$15,000 per stall this year, according to a Facebook post by Associate Professor Faishal in Oct 2023. This way, both vendors and customers can expect to enjoy a more affordable bazaar experience.

The 2023 bazaar offered visitors with all sorts of exciting dining options, such as rosti, praffles (a prata waffle hybrid), lobster rolls and more. Who knows what enticing stalls await us this year?

As the bazaar has yet to be set up, take note that the images above are from last year’s bazaar.
