The Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar is here at Wisma Geylang Serai! With 700 stalls to see, it would be a shame to miss it starting 17 Mar 2023.

The Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar is scheduled to be running for 36 days, until 22 Apr 2023. Many of the stalls were still mid-preparation when we arrived on its first day, but no sweat for you though, as there’ll definitely be more to come as the bazaar will be in full swing soon!

Ramadan Geylang Serai Bazaar — Rosti

I personally loved the way the Cheesy Rosti with Chicken Sausage (S$13) sat in the container perfectly, and the flavour of this was immaculate. The notes of pepper and rosemary were strong, giving points for amazing seasoning. I loved how it had a crispy bite and was not like the flimsy rostis I had in the past.

Ramadan Geylang Serai Bazaar — Thai Milk Tea

The Thai Grape Milk Tea (S$3 for 700ml, S$4 for 1 litre, S$5 in bottle) from Ah Moi Thai Tea tasted as if grape-flavoured Hi-Chew candy and Yakult had been combined into a drink, having a slight milky taste. Due to its sweetness, the drink seemed to make me thirstier though, and wasn’t the thirst-quencher I was looking for.

Chendol

Sofnade selling XL Chendol (S$5)? Say no more! The gula melaka flavour, along with the condensed milk, was not dulled down, making us utter the word “shiok” from our lips before we knew it! The little green jellies had a great chew, which also gave a contrasted texture to the icy treat. Those who are starting to feel the sweltering heat, this is sure to be perfect.

Ramadan Geylang Serai Bazaar — Tahu Bergedil

As for Three Missy‘s Cheesy Beef Tahu Bergedil (S$8), it was a real texture bomb. Freshly deep-fried, that crispy batter crunch paired nicely with the tender beef and soft potatoes, making us purely content. The spicy chilli sauce given reminded us of the black Indonesian chilli accompanying ayam penyet. This gave the bergedil a super fiery kick that would appeal to those who savour spicy flavours!

Ramadan Geylang Serai Bazaar — Seating Area 1

Ramadan Geylang Serai Bazaar — Seating Area 2

Multiple seating areas were scattered all over so as to cater to the anticipated crowd, and above Alley and Sofnade was one such seating area for us to enjoy our newly purchased food. The use of wooden planks as tables made the place feel super rustic, giving the area such a chill vibe.

I will have to say that it was rather stuffy, since there was no ventilation, so you might want to come prepared with portable fans.

Ramadan Geylang Serai Bazaar — Japan Banana

Look at Rainbow Work‘s adorable Japan Banana (S$6.90), which is a banana-shaped pancake! Said to be a popular choice in Japan, we clearly can see why. The fluffy interior complemented the crispy bread-like exterior really well, giving it an amazing textural contrast.

Patches

Customised items have always been in the rage, since people loved how personalised it can be. This stall offered many patches to choose from.

From Tote Bags (S$15) to even Mini Pouches (S$7), this would make such a thoughtful gift. This stall uncle clearly knew his market, seeing as how my colleagues (Gillian and Rachel) were frantically choosing which iron-on patches would match their new tote bag best.

Carnival

Stage

There were even carnival games and a live band as well! Although the live band was not playing just yet, I believe they would add to the hype of the bazaar, adding a sweet rhythm whilst you visit the stalls. The carnival games would be amazing for the little ones!

It would be a true shame to miss out such a bazaar. With so much food to eat and shops to see, it would be safe to bring an extra bag and a few extra mouths to get the full experience. And for our Malay readers, happy Ramadan!
