If you’d like to enjoy “Peranakan food at its best”, this is where it’s at. Offering authentic Peranakan food with a modern touch, Godmama has replaced Café Q Classified with a second outlet at Parkway Parade. Don’t worry, their original outlet at Funan Mall is still in operation.

Why ‘Godmama’?

In honour of her godma and mama, the Peranakan founder of the store, Christina Keilthy, preserves traditional family recipes that she used to love as a child. Now featuring a rich fusion of old and new, Godmama’s menu includes classic Nyonya dishes along with innovative redefinitions of Straits Chinese cuisine.

Without further ado, here’s a look at what you can enjoy at their newly-opened branch.

Let’s start off with their outlet-exclusive specials. The All-Star Egg Skin Popiah (S$7.50) is wrapped in a homemade egg skin crepe and boasts a chock-full filling of fresh prawns, stewed vegetables, assorted greens, minced and crispy garlic that is painstakingly hand-cut and caramelised.

Meanwhile, Godmama’s Crayfish Nyonya Yellow Mee (S$23.90) is generously topped with thin omelette slices, tender pork belly and crayfish in an aromatic stock of pork, chicken and prawns.

Godmama - Popiah

You can’t call a Peranakan dish “Peranakan” without a punch of spice. The comforting bowl of noodles is also served with sambal nanas timun! Side note, the Popiah and Nyonya Yellow Mee are only available at Funan Mall and Parkway Parade respectively.

RAHH ready to take on more heat? Be sure to try signatures like Babi Assam (S$20.90), stewed assam pork that is simmered in robust tamarind stew with tau kwa and chillies to add extra oomph. You’ll never go wrong with a classic bowl of Beef Rendang (S$22.50). Layered with the herbaceous notes of makrut lime and lemongrass, the succulent beef shin is soaked with coconut curry.

This may look intimidating to some, but think again after you’ve tried it. The Ayam Buah Keluak (S$24.50) is a piquant chicken stew that is saturated with tangy lengkuas and turmeric. Of course, the big black buah keluak can’t be missed.

Tip of the day: pair these Nyonya dishes with a side of Bunga Telang Jasmine Rice (S$1.50), coloured with a distinct blue hue from the infused butterfly pea flower.

Brunch, anyone? From the silky Pulut Hitam Panna Cotta (S$10.90) with coconut shavings to the creamy Durian Pengat Buttermilk Pancakes (S$20.90) with Peranakan coconut milk durian compote and coconut crumble, indulge in Godmama’s delightful brunch offerings on weekends and public holidays.

Bottoms up. Unwind with a glass of Peranakan Blue (S$22) that pairs well with Godmama’s Specials. Featuring a smooth blend of award-winning Singapore Dry Gin, butterfly pea and lavender, the refreshing drink is flavoured with the zesty East Imperial Yuzu Tonic

Serving traditional Peranakan dishes that packs a punch to your palate, Godmama will make you say “God, mama!”
