“Business Hotel for Seminars and Conventions”
Situated right beside the Singapore River, Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore is a premier conference hotel perfect for business travelers and local event organizers alike. Zouk, one of Singapore’s most iconic nightclubs, is also just a stone’s throw away which should be enticing for party goers looking to stay the night.
As you step into the lobby atrium, you’re welcomed with unexpected luxurious elegance. For the earlier generation clubbers, Grand Copthorne has always been ‘that hotel next to Zouk’ where you meet friends or get a cab, but never really took a second glance inside.
The hotel has been around for quite a number of years, and one can observe the architectural styles popular back in the day with a mix of wood and marble. I’ve been offered a preview of the Rest and Relax Staycation package which I will be talking about more.
Executive Suite
The first perk of the Rest and Relaxation package is the massive executive suite you get, which comes at 495 sq ft in space.
Magnificent city view from the room brightens the mood and further enhances the large spatial perception of the room.
Great natural lighting, a separate bedroom and living room, this room caters to all sorts of diverse needs. Decor might be slightly antiquated with lime green walls and a dial switch for the air con, but the room still has an impression of classic, old money.
This room would be great for a family stay as well, with more space for the adults to relax while the children go wild in the other room.
Another classic styled marble-clad bathroom, with the fastest filling bathtub I’ve had the pleasure of using. The whole tub filled with water in just around 4 minutes, making it amazingly convenient to take a bubble bath. The only quip was my distaste for the hotel’s standard soap and shampoo, which smelt old and musty.
Club Lounge
With the executive suite, you are also blessed with all powers of the hotel’s club lounge. The hotel can get quite crowded, but at the club lounge, isolation and privacy is guaranteed.
From 6-8pm, enjoy hor d’oeuvres and free flow beer/wine/cocktails at the club lounge. As with many of the other hotel club lounges, this is my favorite period of the stay. The view up here is also spectacular.
The dishes served vary daily, and the day I tried had a Thai theme with items like mango seafood salad and lemongrass chicken. Western items were mixed it too though, like foie gras pate and salmon in case Thai cuisine isn’t your thing.
Guest facilities include a open air swimming pool, indoor gym as well as a tennis court. The gym equipment is astonishingly well decked out too.
Conference/Meeting Rooms
The Waterfront Conference centre on level 2 has 34 versatile meeting rooms along with ballrooms perfect for holding seminars, conferences and even weddings. Its little wonder why so many businesses prefer to hold their meetings at Grand Copthorne hotel.
No matter if your company requires a dedicated meeting room, or wants to hold a large conference event, Grand Copthorne can meet your demands. This is one of the key highlights of the hotel that most corporations are familiar with.
Pontini Italian Restaurant
On level 2 of Grand Copthrone Waterfront you will find Pontini, which recently launched its Italian Buffet at $48++ on Saturdays and public holidays from 12 -3 pm.
Chef Daniele Sarno unveils this brand new Italian-styled buffet featuring a range of antipasti, breads, soup, main courses and desserts from various regions in Italy.
Freshly made, wood-fired pizzas are also available in the buffet for your enjoyment.
Pasta is whipped up a la minute by the chefs at Pontini, with different preparation methods and choice of pasta. You can even mix some ingredients around if it’s not too complicated for the kitchen to handle, and provided they have it.
Tagliolini with Tomato Fondue and Basil. I requested to add some chili slices to be fried together in an spicy arrabbiata style.
Penne with genovese style basil pesto sauce. The basil flavours are pretty dominant, but I felt the pasta was a little under-seasoned. Easily fixed though.
Cannoli is an Italian tube shaped pastry dessert filled with ricotta cream cheese, originating from Sicily and is one of the interesting finds at Pontini.
The price point for the brunch at Pontini is honestly quite affordable, although this buffet is a little rough around the edges and could use a little tweaking. The smiling servers were a pleasant uplifting factor too, making one feel relaxed and happy just being in the restaurant.
Blending its ample conference facilities with a halcyon setting, guests are assured of a unique and memorable experience in Singapore. Just minutes away from Chinatown or Orchard Road, Grand Copthorne Waterfront is highly recommended for the savvy business traveler.
