If you’re a Westie through and through, you probably felt a little sad when Hambaobao closed down its stall at Beauty World Centre. After all, weren’t their handcrafted burgers absolutely impossible to resist? It’s been a while since we’ve managed to sink our teeth into one of these affordable homemade gems, but today, I’ve got good news for us all.

Hambaobao’s back.

Ham bao bao menu

Located at Sam Leong Road, their newly opened American diner-style eatery is just a few minutes away from Farrer Park MRT, and boasts its signature variety of crafted burgers, along with sides, and even a decadent chocolate cake for dessert that caught my eye in an instant. The prices have gone up slightly in the reopening, but hey, if it’s good and worth paying for, then I’mma pay for it, ya know?

Ham bao bao's classic burger

There’s the Classic Beef (S$7.50), which boasts of a thicc patty sandwich between lightly buttered brioche that’s both fluffy and soft. It’s topped with Hambaobao’s homemade tomato sauce, cheese, and crunchy pickles—a staple combination in a cheeseburger that hasn’t failed me, and probably never will.

Ham bao bao's pulled pork burger

Maybe you’re looking for something with a little extra kick, in which case, your trip to Hambaobao won’t be complete without an order of their Spiced Pulled Pork (S$7.50). Its taste might remind you of the familiar five-spice powder that all our grandmothers have in the kitchen. This is topped lemon mayo for the tinge of acidity to create more depth in flavour, and fresh cabbage for the extra crunch.

Of course, no burger will ever be complete without a serving of Hand Cut Fries (S$2.50). Hambaobao’s fries are cut individually by hand and boast of sweetness, not unlike sweet potato.

chocolate cake

End off your meal with a decadent slice of their chocolate cake, aptly named DARKANGEL_1992_ (S$4.50). It’s an upgrade from your regular chocolate chiffon, and is made with angel cake that’s got a delectably bouncy texture. It’s made in house by the owners Clare and Ryan, and guaranteed to make all your cheat days worth it.
