Chilli crab is a quintessential Singaporean dish that excites our taste buds. This ‘Circuit Breaker’ period shouldn’t deter you from pampering your taste buds with some flavourful and decadent seafood dishes.

Indeed, we can easily find many zi char places offering chilli crab takeaway in Singapore. However, more often than not, they come with a pretty hefty price tag. Hotpot Dynasty caught my eye on the Hawkers United Facebook Group with their sumptuous spread of signature dishes ranging from Salted Egg Pork Ribs to their affordable Chilli Crab.

Hotpot Dynasty

With many reviews reflecting on their intensely flavourful and succulent crabs, I decided to try it for myself!

Hotpot Dynasty is now available for takeaway orders (through a phone call at +65 8312 3483). Located at Serangoon First Centre, a minimum spending of S$30 on other zi char dishes will allow you to enjoy a promotion of S$39.90 for three crabs.

Hotpot Dynasty Chilli Crab

Promising bold and exciting flavour combinations that will both surprise and tantalise anyone’s taste buds, the crabs from Hotpot Dynasty were beyond my expectations. The Chilli Crab was charmingly succulent, exceeding the expectations I had for a 300-gram crab.

The crab was fresh with its meat possessing a mellow sweetness as the flaky white flesh was accompanied by a generous amount of delectable gravy. The chilli crab sauce was much spicier than other modern renditions so spice fiends will find themselves mopping up every last bit of gravy.

The piquant chilli crabs were cooked to perfection and I appreciated the fact that the plump flesh did not stick to the shell, therefore allowing one to dig into its meat effortlessly.

Packing a punch with its rich and flavourful gravy, I almost left my family with nothing as I found myself finishing almost everything. This is guaranteed to fulfil your hearts and stomachs!

Hotpot Dynasty Chilli Crab Mantou

The Fried Mantou Buns (S$3), also known as deep-fried buns, managed to retain its crunch even though it was left out for quite some time. It was crispy, pillowy, soft and fluffy. As I dipped it into the moreish gravy sauce, it absorbed the gravy beautifully, leaving me yearning for more.

Hotpot Dynasty Salted Egg Ribs

The Salted Egg Yolk Pork Ribs (S$12) was saturated in light and watery salted egg yolk gravy leaning towards the sweeter side. The ribs were fried to a crisp outer and were tender to bite. I personally would have preferred the gravy to have a more pronounced flavour.

The sauce also tasted one dimensional and the flavours felt a little flat to me as my palate failed to detect notes of the curry leaves and chilli padi.

Hotpot Dynasty Hor Fun

The Dried Beef Hor Fun (S$12) was full-bodied, fragrant and stir-fried to perfection. The fried noodles were not too oily and it encapsulated the essence of wok hei. Bursting in robust flavours, the meat was tender and chewy. Overall, I would say this humble and comforting dish is one not to miss.

If crustaceans are what you’re desiring for dinner tonight, wait no further.  The crab-tivatingly delicious seafood dish offered at Hotpot Dynasty is bound to be right up your alley. Offering a myriad of other zi char dishes, they’re bound to rock your world and help you tide through the trying ‘Circuit Breaker‘ period.

Expected Damage: S$15 – S$30 per pax
