1 – 5 April: Nasi Lemak with Chicken Chop

8 – 12 April: Nasi Lemak with Chicken Leg

15 – 19 April: Nasi Lemak with Fish Fillet

22 -26 & 29 April: Nasi Lemak with Chicken Cutlet

We haven’t even gotten to the best part – all these will go for only S$6.50! As expected, they sell fast so make sure you rush down to your nearest IKEA restaurant outlet to indulge in this beloved local classic.

Like some sceptics out there, we wanted to know if IKEA’s nasi lemak can hold its ground against local favourites like the ones at Adam Food Centre and Punggol that we have visited, and as such, we’ve saved you the hassle and went down to sample what IKEA had to offer.

We went down at 2pm, but the nasi lemak was already sold out – perhaps the best testament to how good it is.

The serving portions just might be the biggest draw for coming down to IKEA. Simply by virtue of the massive chicken chop that was on the plate, this might be one of the most value-for-money nasi lemak’s in Singapore!

The Nasi Lemak with Chicken Chop (S$6.50) featured grilled rather than fried chicken. Certainly a healthier choice – but don’t fret if you love your fried chicken, as IKEA does have a Nasi Lemak with Chicken Cutlet (S$6.50) option coming out in the last week of the month.

The chicken meat was tender and well cooked, and not dry at all, which was great since most foods prepared on a large scale often come out overcooked. It was succulent and fleshy, with a clean, sweet aftertaste. There was also an added peppery kick from the freshly ground black pepper it was served with.

The rice lacks the strong coconut aroma which I feel is essential to any good nasi lemak. It was also a little dry and clumpy which could be improved on.

I’d say that the sambal chilli for nasi lemak can make even the most average dishes taste amazing. IKEA’s version was more sweet than spicy, perhaps to cater to a larger demographic. However, it still gave me a kick at the back of my throat which I liked.

While the nasi lemak might not be trump the best ones we have here, it’s definitely very value-for-money. Don’t miss out! Bring your family and friends down before its sold out.
