Ipoh Qunkee Biscuits & Bakery, an old-school confectionery in Ipoh, Malaysia since 1975, has now expanded to Singapore with its first outlet at Space @ Kovan, which opened on 11 Nov 2023.

Before you read this article, do note that the shop will be closed from 14 to 20 Dec 2023.

The founder of this 48-year-old bakery, Mr. Chen Zhang Han, left Guangdong, China, in 1918 in pursuit of business opportunities in Malaysia. In 1971, he established his own restaurant in Ipoh and later ventured into the biscuit and bakery business in 1975.

Every day, freshly baked pastries, including the flaky Portuguese Tart (S$2.50) and the soft, buttery Hong Kong Egg Tart (S$2.20), are available for sale.

New in town: Xin Shan Bakery — Japanese swiss rolls with generous cream fillings like hojicha & thai yam from JB

The stall is also renowned for its Kaya Puff (S$1.30) consisting of coconut jam (made in-house) encased in an aromatic, buttery pastry.

If you’re eyeing other varieties, you can also find Salted Dou Sha Bing (S$0.70), Wife Biscuit (S$1.50), Fermented Red Bean Curd Biscuit (S$1.50) and Hubby Biscuit (S$1.50).

If you’re keen on fancier flavours like the Chicken Floss Tart (S$2.60), Bamboo Charcoal Cheese Tart (S$2.60), Almond Cocoa Tart (S$2.60) and Matcha Red Bean Tart (S$2.60), do note that pre-orders need to be made to avoid disappointment.
