Do you recall when Irvins’ Zig Zag Potato Chips was launched?
This time, Irvins brings their salted egg experience to the next level, serving Messy Bowls at a takeaway kiosk named Messy Kitchen, located at Wisma Atria, #B1-59, offering a two in one retail concept, the Irvins Messy Bowls and the Irvins Snack Retail.
The Irvins Messy Bowl is the perfect bowl to take away, with three bases to pick from—Salted Egg Rice (S$11.50), Truffle Rice (S$10), and Truffle Noodles (S$10). Select your choice of protein, and shake your bowl for instant shiok!
An interesting detail I found was that the truffle-based items had truffle infused into the noodles as well as the rice, which was rather intriguing or could come across as something rather disturbing as it comes with black specks seen slightly on the noodles/rice.
Nonetheless, it was an ingenious way of adding truffle flavour into the food.
The Salted Egg Rice With Calamari option comes with fried calamari, kailan stems and strips, and a ton of rice to fill up your belly. The salted egg yolk sauce is served separately, which is served separately to prevent your Messy Bowl from turning soggy.
For seafood lovers, this is a must-order, especially when you get the signature taste of Irvins’ salted egg yolk flavour paired with crispy calamari. For those who worried about it being jelak, fret not as I personally found it rather flavourful, although I felt that the quantity of rice a tad too much.
The Salted Egg Rice With Chicken option is for meat lovers out there. Personally, this is a classic option I will recommend for indecisive souls who would prefer playing it safe. The amount of chicken given was sustainable, and was tender and juicy, and went well with the salted egg yolk.
The Truffle Rice With Prawn option is perfect for those craving for fresh, bouncy prawns. Coupled with the truffle’s garlicky flavour and musky aroma taste, this combination was irresistibly good.
The Truffle Noodles With Clam option is for those who are huge fans of baby clams. I personally do not favour baby clams; maybe clam fanatics can try it out and give your opinion on this?
