One of my favourite watering holes has migrated to a larger location; Junior the Pocket Bar is now calling Ann Siang Hill its home, since 13 October 2020. Known for its discrete, back-alley situation prior to the move, it was also known for rotating its tipple offerings based on six-month seasons.
I, for one, have returned there many times since my initial review, and they have never failed to deliver novel, complex concoctions that might’ve made me part with too many of my hard-earned moolah. But, all in all, the intimate setting coupled with stellar mixes, make me more than happy to bid adieu to some part of my salary for the evening.
From initial visuals of their spankin’ new crib, I can foresee dark, sexy nights await me—till 10.30pm, that is—and with housewarming underway, regulars can expect Junior’s new Homebrew & Highballs, a staple that will now be featured in their menu. There’s Thai Ginger Beer with mixed ginger, curry spice and sour tamarind (can be spiked with dark rum), as well as Lacto Lime Soda with salt-cured citrus, lime leaf and soda (which has the option of adding tequila).
Of course, they have also extended their current chapter, Washi, currently too, with Crane, with kyoho grape, Sakura vermouth, cognac and lemon, and Rabbit, with miso roast carrot aqavit, honey, lemon and Junmai sake. For light bites, the Washi theme spills onto your plate with Tako Wasabi marinated octopus calamansi and Mala Hot Chicken sando with Szechuan sauce, purple cabbage slaw and pickled pineapple.
I don’t know about you, but I’m impatiently waiting for a chance to check out their new spot, and if feel the same way, you can make a reservation to guarantee a place. See you there!
