Pineapple fried rice. Tom Yum Goong. Pad Thai. Forgive my culinary rap. It’s been a while since I last indulged in some good ol’ Thai food. Frankly, there’s no reason not to. Singapore has a flurry of Thai options, from secluded nooks like 555 Halal Thai to more fancy fare at Cafe Amazon. Heck, there’s even an exclusive supermarket on our shores to satisfy all your Thai-related needs and wants.

Before I digress further, today’s agenda lies in a new Thai eatery, so you have one more place to head to for curbing your cravings. Khao Hom by Rung Mama is bursting onto the scene at Ang Mo Kio, offering a neat array of dishes to make you feel like you’re back in Bangkok.

Diners at Khao Hom can expect all the classics and more unique dishes to boot. Let’s kick things off with the Grilled Pork with Homemade sauce (S$12). This one is a heady mix of tender, charred pork slabs and a piquant sweet-spicy sauce of chopped chillis, coriander, and chives. It’s quite the dream pairing, and one which I’m guessing would go hand-in-hand with a refreshing Thai iced milk tea. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

Another mainstay on the menu here is the Thai Crispy & Fluffy Omelette (S$8). The duo of adjectives here isn’t all for nought either, as anyone can tell from this picture that they aren’t lying.

Fried eggs aren’t anything to scream about, but I think differently when it comes to Thai iterations of the humble ingredient. Khao Hom’s version will offer a perfect crispy and fragrant addition to your table, and I reckon that your fellow dining partners will agree with me.

Lastly, this one’s for all the seafood lovers out there. The Steamed Squid with Lime Sauce (S$18) is a sight to behold. Visually, it’s a striking platter of sliced squid swimming in a tangy lime sauce that’s playfully empowered by chilli padi and garlic. Don’t mistake it for grilled fish, even though it’s understandable how one can make that mistake from afar. If you are a seafood aficionado, this is a must-order.

Khao Hom is shaping out to be a fantastic addition to Ang Mo Kio’s food scene, and I believe it will be a great spot whenever you’re hungry for some Thai grub.
