With shiny new malls like SKS City Mall JBCC and Horizon Mall in Johor Bahru, it’s fair to wonder what happens to the OG spots we grew up with. As Johor Bahru City Square gears up for major redevelopment in 2027, KIPMall Tampoi has already completed its own revamp.

Located in Tampoi — the same area as B5 Johor Street Market — the mall sits roughly 7 minutes by car from Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru and about a 15–20-minute drive from the JB Checkpoint.

The mall now feels brighter and more comfortable overall, with expanded seating areas and upgraded amenities such as baby changing rooms.

Dining options have expanded significantly following the revamp. Jom Makan, the mall’s food court, offers a variety of stalls that cater to different tastes within one shared seating area.

The adjacent food street features standalone snack vendors serving both sweet and savoury bites. Well-known names in the lineup include The Chicken Rice Shop, Marrybrown, Hot & Roll, Faizal Kong Mee Tarik, CU Mart, and ZUS Coffee.

One of its strongest draws is Jalan Jalan Japan, a go-to for thrift enthusiasts. The outlet here stretches across more than 20 aisles and carries up to 200,000 pre-loved items imported from Japan at any given time.

Shoppers can browse clothing, footwear, handbags, household goods, and even baby items, typically priced under RM50. Fitting rooms are available, and regular visitors note that restocks commonly take place on Mondays.

KIPMall Tampoi continues to retain its wet market-style concept, now upgraded into a cleaner and more ventilated space fitted with large heli-fans.

The refreshed section maintains its traditional market atmosphere while offering a more comfortable shopping environment. For those who prefer a supermarket setting, HT Supermart is also available for daily groceries and household essentials.

Just a reminder: KIPMall Tampoi isn’t positioned as a luxury shopping destination, and it doesn’t try to compete with Johor Bahru’s high-end malls despite its revamp. For those who appreciate a laid-back mall experience without the crowds or over-the-top frills, you’d feel right at home.
