A Serangoon kopitiam will soon bid goodbye to the traditional handmade Teochew Noodle shop, Lao Gu Ban. They are set to close on 26 Nov. Thankfully, unlike the pattern we have seen with most old school stall closures, this one is already set to relocate on 5 Dec at Solaris @ Kallang 164.

It’s not the first time Lao Gu Ban had to relocate. Before coming to Serangoon, they had roots in Cantonment Road and KA Centre @ Kampong Ampat.

Until now, they mainly set up shop at cosy coffee shops and this new move is slightly different as it takes them to an air-conditioned food court. Either way, it still is the same food, just under a new roof.

If you’re unfamiliar with them, Lao Gu Ban’s biggest draws are its handmade noodles and ingredients. A good example is the prawn paste cubes in their Signature Handmade Prawn Paste Noodle (S$6)

If you like their prawn paste, they have Handmade Prawn Paste Soup (S$6). For those who like a little bit of fish with their noodles, the stall also offers their Handmade Prawn Fish Maw Noodle (S$6 for Regular, S$8 for Large)

They even make their own handmade chilli sauce that’s crafted to go perfectly with these dishes. Some reviews say that it’s on the saltier side of things, though.

While Lao Gu Ban falls in the slightly pricier range of kopitiam food, reviewers have noted the generous ingredients so the steeper price point may be worth it. Why not visit Lao Gu Ban before they move or take a short trip into the industrial zone when they reopen?
