The Jalan Besar area is known for its diverse range of cafes and eateries. It would seem that rising rent costs and the unfavourable economy have snagged another victim from among them as Lucid Cafe has announced it will close on 27 Nov.
Just 5 minutes from Bendemeer MRT Station and 10 from Lavender, the cafe is conveniently accessible by train but that hasn’t kept them from having to shutter.
The interior has what you would expect of a contemporary cafe with heavy minimalistic inspiration — there’s predominantly industrial grey with little to no decor to speak of.
Flash Coffee closes all stores on 13 Oct following bankruptcy filing
It was opened by Andrea Tan, Singapore’s first National Brewers’ Cup champion in 2020, right before the Pandemic struck.
The announcement of the cafe’s closure was made on both the cafe’s Instagram and Facebook pages, where they cited ‘untenable operating costs’ and revealed that their last date would be 27 Nov.
Many comments on those posts spoke highly of the cafe, with several stating that Lucid was their favourite coffee place and cafe in the area. Others even said that they hoped Lucid would find a way to reopen in the future.
Apart from their roster of coffees like Black, Single-shot espresso (S$4) and White, Single-shot espresso with 80ml steamed milk (S$4.80), the cafe also offers Chocolate with steamed milk (S$6).
Non-coffee aficionados might enjoy bakes like Maple Scone (S$6.50) that comes with red miso butter and cream, as well as Lemon Tart (S$9) dessert topped with vanilla meringue.
Do head down before the cafe shutters for good to have a taste of their quality brews, if not to snap your last photos of Lucid’s aesthetic, Instagrammable interior.
