Mamee Monster has always been one of my favourite childhood snacks growing up. I have many happy memories of munching on the flavoured crunchy noodles on the bus home after a tiring day at school. Sadly, the legend who started it all, Datuk Pang Chin Hin, has passed away at the ripe old age of 96. According to Sin Chew Daily, Pang passed away peacefully on Saturday, 5 Nov 2022 at 6.03am.

Mamee’s story began in 1971, when founder Pang and his partner started a small factory in Melaka that manufactured instant noodles. He noticed rubber tappers eating uncooked instant noodles straight from the pack, and the Pang father-son duo steered their noodle production to a new direction and launched the memorable crunchy noodle snack— Mamee.

Fast forward to today, Pang has created Mister Potato, Double Decker, Mamee Chef and more. Pang’s snack empire is now left to his family. He also leaves behind 3 sons, 3 daughters, his many grandchildren, and the company he has built from ground up.

Mamee Monster was the joy of many Malaysian kids growing up and we have Pang to thank for that. Rest in peace, legend.
