Mac & cheese is one of those meals that seem to work no matter how elaborate or how simple you want the recipe to be. But cheese is cheese, and it tastes good no matter the form you decide on.
This recipe goes out to anyone who longs for a tasty, filling meal but is either a klutz in the kitchen or simply doesn’t have two hours to bake mac & cheese in a crockpot. Here’s how you can make mac & cheese in a microwave in just five minutes, using five ingredients.
- 1/3 cup macaroni
- 1/3 cup water
- Pinch of salt
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese
- A large, microwavable mug
Cooking time: 5 minutes
- Pour your macaroni and water into your microwavable mug, then sprinkle a pinch of salt.
- Microwave for 4 minutes, stopping every minute to stir.
- Add in shredded cheese and milk, and stir.
- Microwave for another 1 minute or until cheese melts fully.

Don’t knock this ridiculously easy recipe just yet—you’ll still be able to get your cheese pull and whatever cheesy goodness that you so desire.
For the shredded cheese, I used a cheese mix of parmesan, cheddar, and mozzarella for that all-rounded sharpness, but of course, your cheese choice is yours to make. And if you find that one mug alone doesn’t even scratch the surface of your appetite, go on, have two. We don’t judge.
Expected damage: S$1 – S$1.50 per portion
