Rachel and I made our way down to the flagship store of Ms Durian at 11 Kelantan Road as soon as we heard of their Mao Shan Wang afternoon tea set. We were also thrilled to try out some of their specialty durian desserts and drinks. I mean, durian… anything, right?

The cafe has a strong partnership with its dedicated durian supplier, so you’re guaranteed that only the freshest Mao Shan Wang durians are deseeded in-house for all of their products.

Who would’ve known that the building that houses the cafe used to be a police station back in the 1980s? The massive space spans over 10,000 square feet and has a breezy outdoor al fresco area which is also pet-friendly.

We tried the Afternoon Tea Set (S$25+ per pax, min. order of 2 sets). It was a beautifully-presented display of 4 different types of Mao Shan Wang durian treats and came with a pot of Lemongrass Pandan tea (the perfect palate cleanser).

We were greeted by co-owner, Jeslyn, who recommended us to try the items according to the intensity of the durian.

So we commenced with the cute-looking Fried Durian, which looked like mini round croquettethat were doused in a decadent coconut sauce. It was crispy on the outside and velvety smooth within.

The Durian Craquelins were like miniature choux pastries with a luxurious durian filling. The Durian Macaroninstantly melted in my mouth with aromatic durian cream and weren’t overly sweet— I could easily eat 2 at a go! And so I did.

We finally ended with the Durian Cheese Mousse. The intense mousse was a match made in heaven together with the ultra-fragrant browned butter crumble on top.

We also had the opportunity to try a couple of upcoming new items, which will be launching on 1 Mar 2023 at Ms Durian. The first was the Crème Brûlée With Mao Shan Wang Durian Ice Cream (S$18.50).

A classic crème brûlée is topped with petite scoops of Mao Shan Wang durian ice cream and sprinkled with crunchy and buttery macadamias. It’s big enough to be shared among 2 people, or you can be greedy and indulge it all on your own! AHEM.

Next was the Durian Ice Blended (S$10.50). This creamy and indulgent beverage will definitely cool you down from the sweltering heat outside.

It comes with an adorable mortar and pestle filled with roasted white sesame seeds. Grind them up and toss them into the ice-cold drink for added nutty goodness.

Caffeine aficionados should try the Durian Coffee (S$12.50) which is a cold brew that has a perfect balance of the 2 ingredients. We loved it so much!
