Just a day after a RapidKL bus caught fire near Mid Valley Megamall, chaos ensued in Bangsar on 6 Mar 2024, when a nasi kandar restaurant exploded, unsettling the neighbourhood’s peace. A video circulating on social media has garnered considerable attention, depicting the sizeable blaze visible from a distance.

The explosion occurred at Nasi Kandar Utara on Jalan Bandar Utama 8 around 11.44am. A total of 44 firefighters from Pantai, Seputeh, Jalan Hang Tuah, and Sri Hartamas stations, equipped with 4 fire engines, rushed to extinguish the flames.

Upon their arrival at 11.51am, the fire was still raging. It took them approximately 50 minutes to successfully put out the fire.

A 45-year-old restaurant employee sustained severe burns covering 80% of his body and was promptly transferred to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for urgent medical treatment. According to a patron interviewed by Sinar Harian, the incident began with a loud explosion, followed by flames erupting. Another witness mentioned that he and his friends promptly evacuated the premises upon noticing the fire.

Preliminary assessments reveal that the explosion has led to approximately 70% of the 40×100-foot shop being burnt down. Authorities are still actively investigating the cause of the incident and the extent of the damage.
