Old World Bak Kut Teh & Fried Porridge’s tumultuous journey might be ending sooner than we think, as it is expected to close by 27 Feb unless a successor is found.

Does that name sound familiar? You might have heard of Old World Bak Kut Teh & Fried Porridge from the news in the past few years. This popular hawker brand was established 6 years ago and has relocated not one, not two, but 4 times within the same neighbourhood since then.
The stall is based in Yishun, perhaps not surprising considering the area has become infamous for being home to many bizarre happenings. The brand’s only other outlet is in Tampines.

Following its last relocation in Sep 2024, owner Jeremy Yeo rebranded the business as Old Hokkien. He also expanded the menu, adding new items alongside his signature bak kut teh and fried porridge.
Mr Yeo must’ve had a change of heart because Old Hokkien was rebranded back to its original name at the end of Jan 2025. Not long after, he announced the unfortunate news of the closure on Facebook. Mr Yeo said that he hopes to pass the business over to someone else for a low takeover fee before then.
The reason for his decision is that he will be engaged in overseas projects starting in Mar 2025 and will not have the time to run the business. Interested parties are invited to get in touch if they are interested, and they will receive all the recipes necessary to run the stall. Otherwise, Old World will close by 27 Feb.
It’s truly saddening news for the regulars who have supported the stall throughout its 6 years of ups and downs. Let’s pray that Old World Bak Kut Teh & Fried Porridge at Yishun will find a new owner before it closes by the end of the month.
