Omma Korean Charcoal BBQ deal - Exterior of restaurant

Omma Korean Charcoal BBQ is situated along the stretch of restaurants and other good eateries on Cheong Chin Nam Road. It is the last KBBQ restaurant along that stretch and is only a 5-minute walk away from Beauty World MRT station.

Omma Korean Charcoal BBQ deal - Side Dishes (left), Sauces (right)

My dining companion and I were first served a free-flow of side dishes, including Kimchi, Pickled Radish, Bean Sprouts, and Fish Cake. We found the kimchi sweeter than other kimchis we had tried, and the pickled radish leaned towards an alkaline taste. We aren’t exactly keen on vegetables (like the rest of the world), but we found the bean sprouts to have a light, refreshing flavour.

The Samjang that was included had a bolder, thicker consistency than we are used to, and was used mainly as a dipping sauce for the rest of our meal.

Omma Korean Charcoal BBQ deal - Kimchi Soup (Left), Steamed Egg (Right)

Between the Soybean Paste Soup (Beef/Seafood) and Kimchi Soup (Tuna/Pork), we chose the latter as we are kimchi lovers. The kimchi soup remained piping hot all throughout our meal and was large enough to share between the 2 of us. Each bowl had so much mushroom, tofu, and glass noodles that we found them in each scoop, and the soup itself was rich and hearty, with a strong gochujang taste.

The Steamed Egg was fluffy upon arrival and creamy in our mouths.

Omma Korean Charcoal BBQ deal - Meat

Onto the main star of the show — the meat itself. We chose the Pork Omma Set, and were served Iberico Pork Collar, Black Pork Belly, and Iberico Pork Jowl.

Now, the taste of the meat may vary based on how long you cook it for, but we were simply blown away by how juicy and tender each piece was. Pork Belly has always been my pick, and Omma Korean Charcoal BBQ did not disappoint! It was juicy and not overly chewy.

However, after the tasting, I may have pivoted over to the pork jowl instead. Pork Jowl is a cut of meat from the pig’s cheek and is known for being rather succulent and rich. Prior to this, I had not tried pork jowl at all and was impressed at how it melted in my mouth.

Omma Korean Charcoal BBQ deal - Pork Jowl (Left), Lettuce, Kimchi, Pork Jowl (Right)

Our recommendation is to eat it the Korean way — by wrapping your meat and kimchi in the lettuce and eating it whole. A word of advice would be to add a dollop of samjang in for a richer flavour.

Aside from being flavourful, the meat was fatty. Safe to say we finished the whole platter without difficulty.
