It’s no secret that JB is a treasure trove of great eats. Among these is Oriental Kopi, a famed kopitiam-style chain with delicious eats worth crossing the border for. If you’re a fan, great news! You’ll soon be spared the travel hassle as they’re slated to arrive on our shores by Sep 2024.

Oriental Kopi - Malaysia Storefront

For the uninitiated, Oriental Kopi is a popular chain of retro Nanyang kopitiam-style eateries, akin to Singapore’s Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe. They currently operate a total of 14 outlets across Malaysia, including several in popular JB malls like Mid Valley Southkey and City Square.

According to a press release, their upcoming outlet in Singapore is a joint venture with the renowned Paradise Group and also marks their first overseas foray.

While the specific location of Oriental Kopi’s Singapore offshoot has yet to be confirmed, Paradise Group has revealed that it’ll be in a “prime location”. They’ve also disclosed their intention to open a total of 8 outlets over the next 3 years.

That aside, not much else has been revealed as the Malaysian chain themselves have yet to come forth with an official announcement of any sort. Nonetheless, we can expect the arrival of the first outlet by Q3 2024.

As we eagerly await the opening, let’s take a peek at their menu in Malaysia to get a taste of what’s to come, shall we?

Local diners can expect to see signature dishes that the brand is best known and loved for, such as their Oriental Polo BunsNasi Lemak and Mee Siam.

An item that’s sure to tickle the fancy of many is their Signature Egg Tarts. Handmade with premium French butter and chock-full of sweet eggy custard, these famed tarts have been hailed as the “Thickest Egg Tart” in the Malaysia Book of Records.

Of course, we can’t forget their titular Oriental Kopi, a robust brew made with a mix of Arabica, Robusta and Liberica beans.

Just the thought of these dishes is already making me hungry. If you’re in the same boat, be sure to keep an eye on their socials for updates. A warning, though: there most certainly will be queues.
