New in town: Pancake Place, Kampong Glam — Lemak duck & smoked salmon pancakes

I am not a morning person, but my favourite meal is any iteration of breakfast food. Not breakfast, breakfast food. I’m all about that stack of fluffy pancakes, grilled tomatoes, poached eggs, and a cup of coffee with foam on top in the shape of a swan. Breakfast foods are not to be trifled with, especially if you’re a night owl like me who wants to sleep in until it’s time for lunch. Pancake Place, a new Muslim-friendly cafe recently opened its doors in Kampong Glam, boasting a range of unusual pancake flavour combinations. I’m definitely going to make a trip down, and that’s a promise.

Whenever the word “pancakes” is mentioned, the first thing my mind jumps to is a generous helping of maple syrup and salted butter on top. It’s a foolproof combination that remains unmatched no matter the occasion, but Pancake Place has taken it up a notch, with unusual combinations such as Lemak Duck (Price TBA). Forget your usual boring pancakes, this one is topped with thin slices of duck and laden with a creamy sauce that’s making my mouth water as I write this.

Another one of my breakfast staples is a perfect smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. I’ve never once rejected breakfast plans that included this mouthwatering combination, and now, I’m looking forward to waking up bright and early to try the Salmon Royale Pancake (Price TBA) at Pancake Place. It’s definitely going to fuel you up for a long day ahead—this pancake is served with smoked salmon, and is topped generously with guacamolesour cream dill, and a poached egg with hollandaise sauce.

No breakfast champ calls it quits with just a main dish—end off your decadent experience at Pancake Place with a Rippleberry Cheesecake Milkshake (Price TBA), a creamy concoction blended with cheesecake slices and ice cream. It sounds like a challenge for my sweet food-loving self, but if you’re going for something less intense, their Cinnful London Fog (Price TBA) might be the way to go. It’s crafted with Honey Golden Vanilla ice cream with French earl grey tea, and spiced with cinnamon for that extra kick in the morning.
