There are few things in the world more comforting than a bowl of pasta. As much as I want to indulge in spaghetti everyday, it does take a toll on my wallet. Dining in Italian restaurants rarely comes cheap. I say rarely, because Pasta Loft might offer just that.

Located in The Midtown, a shopping mall in the heart of Hougang, this quaint little joint promises to do right by one thing—pasta. Having only recently opened in November, the eatery centres its menu around the Italian staple, offering a wide array of pasta dishes at very attractive prices.

Order up Pasta Loft’s signature Carbonara (S$9.90) that comes dressed in heaps of grated parmesan, wood smoked streaky bacon, all atop a bed of linguini bathed in a rich cream sauce. I know that purists may consider the use of cream in carbonara to be blasphemous of sorts, but I for one am a supporter of all forms of delicious-tasting pasta, cream or not. This rendition comes at a price tag of just under S$10, making it a viable option for students and those on a budget.

If you’re looking for more playful options, Pasta Loft has got you covered too. The Chicken Tikka Masala (S$9.90) promises a touch of spice and acidity, with penne bathed in a rich tikka masala gravy. It’s a combination that I’ve yet to come across anywhere else, but one that already has me drooling uncontrollably.

Pasta is not the only thing on the agenda, as the restaurant also features a gorgeous Butterfly Pea Latte (S$4.00). Its brilliant mix of blue and white makes for an undeniably eye-catching aesthetic, for those of you out there who just have to take pictures of your cuppas. It’s also rich in antioxidants, giving you all the more reason to indulge in Pasta Loft’s unique drinks.

Furnished with red brick walls and wooden tabletops, the vibe of the restaurant is homely and warm. Bring your friends and family down for some casual Italian fare that doesn’t break the bank.
