Just recently, we wrote about an incident in which a cockroach was found cooked into a Chicken Pepper Rice Bowl that had been ordered from Pepper Lunch’s CompassOne outlet via GrabFood.
Pepper Lunch has since addressed the issue, detailing the actions that they have taken following the incident.

The Pepper Lunch team was made aware of the incident on 5 Aug 2023, where information was immediately disseminated to the Operations Team. The Area Manager in-charge then activated the Pest Management that day, along with the rest of the team.
Pest Management arrived at the outlet at 9am on 6 Aug 2023 to check on the restaurant before their official opening hours.
Cockroach found cooked with Pepper Lunch rice bowl from CompassOne outlet, Pepper Lunch reaches out
At 4pm on the same day, no pest activity had been observed by the outlet staff. They still proceeded to have another Pest Management check, of which there was no pest activity spotted again.
On 7 Aug 2023, Pepper Lunch’s QA and Operations conducted a review of their past Pest Management reports across their other outlets and found that no pest activity had been reported, and good cleanliness had been maintained. In the past 3 months of their Pest Management records, Pepper Lunch reported that its CompassOne outlet consistently did not have any pest activity.
The customer service team has reached out to the customer who had made the cockroach discovery and apologised for the incident. They also stated that they have since refunded the customer via the GrabFood platform.
The company emphasised its serious view on cleanliness, food safety and quality, and apologised to its customers. The company also assured that it was working with its pest management vendor to take extra precautions in order to prevent such occurrences from happening again.
