One of the most unpleasant experiences when dining is to find foreign ingredients in our food. It’s even worse when that foreign ingredient ends up being a cockroach, which was unfortunately the case for a local man, whose daughter had ordered a meal from Pepper Lunch.
On 5 Aug 2023, the man shared a post on the Facebook page “COMPLAINT SINGAPORE“, in which he detailed the experience. He explained that his daughter had ordered a Chicken Pepper Rice Bowl from Pepper Lunch’s CompassOne outlet through GrabFood, and after taking a few bites, she noticed that there was a small cockroach in the food.

According to the man’s daughter, the cockroach seemed like it had been “cooked”, and the man described that she felt “traumatised” and “nauseous”.
He also attached images of the aforementioned cockroach laying within the food.

The Facebook post was met with response from fellow netizens, who expressed their shock and disgust at the situation. Some even revealed that such incidences made them extra wary of eating out, in fear of experiencing something similar.
Pepper Lunch Singapore responded to the complaint by leaving a comment on the man’s post. They apologised for the incident, and emphasised that the quality and hygiene of their food is of “utmost importance” to them.
They also urged for the man to reach out to them via Facebook Messenger or email for them to be able to further investigate the incident.

This isn’t the first time that such an incident has occurred. This year alone, there have been multiple instances of people finding cockroaches and various foreign objects within their food. For instance, on 26 May, a diner found a cockroach in her Korean steamboat in Clementi, and on 9 May, a rusty fishhook was found in a bowl of fish soup from Amoy Street Food Centre.
We hope that such incidences won’t occur again in the future.
