As a nation that sees spicy food as a delicacy, nay, an integral part of life, you’ve probably said something along the lines of “my mouth is on fire!” in between bites of spicy sambal. Well, Ramen Bar Shishido has once again taken a concept, word for word, and applied it quite literally. On 7 Jun 2023, the ramen bar introduced their hottest invention to the public— Flaming Ramen.

Located in Gasket Alley, Petaling Jaya, Ramen Bar Shishido is a Japanese Izakaya-inspired ramen joint that cooks up fresh noodles daily. Any restaurant that operates in Gasket Alley is surely an interesting one, as every eatery in the building is quick to adapt to current food trends.

The Flaming Ramen features their unique spicy tonkotsu broth and housemade tomato mabo tofu. It’s then topped off with beansprouts, kuchai that’s been marinated in spicy sauce, yakibuta barbecue, egg, and spring onion.

Blink and you’ll miss this hidden Japanese restaurant in the greenery of Old Klang Road

When your bowl arrives, a staff member will proceed to pour vodka onto the surface of the dish. Lean back and watch as they light it up— enjoy the performance of blue and orange flames dancing right in front of your eyes.

Of course, don’t touch the fire or attempt to eat the dish while it’s still burning. There would be nothing more tragic than being sent to the hospital before you even get to take the first sip on piping hot broth. Let the fire die out before digging into your Flaming Ramen

If you’ve been up to date, you may realise that we’ve written about Ramen Bar Shishido a few times prior to this latest menu item. In May 2023, they combined their signature tonkotsu soup with real durian flesh to produce durian ramen, and 2 months before that, they came out with croissant ramen

Other bold experiments include their chocolate ramen that was released in celebration of Valentine’s Day, as well as matcha ramen in 2021 and nasi lemak dry ramen in 2020. Clearly, the eatery is on a mission to harmoniously fuse ramen with unconventional ingredients.

As always, the Flaming Ramen is limited edition, so check it out while it’s still available!
