New in town: Sangwoo Street — JUNGGA’s new Korean street food concept with kimbap, tteokbokki & more

Many may recognize JUNGGA thanks to their successful Korean restaurant Meokja, which is famous for their Muslim-friendly yet authentic Korean cuisine. Now, JUNGGA has come up with Sangwoo Street, providing Korean street food for all of Yishun to enjoy!

Many of our Muslim friends avoid pork-heavy cuisines like Korean, since cross-contamination may be an issue. Thus, it is heartening to hear that there is now a place for them to try out popular Korean street food at freshly opened Sangwoo Street.

Officially opened on 23 Jul 2023, this eatery is owned by Korean Muslim owners of Meokja, Chef Jung and his wife. After seeing the lack of Korean food with halal ingredients, he decided to set up a franchise dishing out Korean cuisine that Muslims could enjoy, too.

Currently, their menu consists of an array of kimbaps, tteokbokki, stew and twigims (which is essentially a Korean variation of tempura). There’s some talk about how the menu will expand, so stay tuned for more to be added in the near future.

Of course, the classic kimbaps are to-die-for, and come with an assortment of proteins to choose from. From tuna-stuffed Chamchi Kimbap (S$6.50) and shrimp-filled Sawwoo Kimbap (S$7) to minced meat Saewoo Kimbap (S$7) and the OG Bulgogi Kimbap (S$7), there’s something to cater to all cravings.

For those who prefer something more filling, Sangwoo Street’s Sangwoo Stew (S$7.50) will be just your thing. Korean classic Tteokbokki (S$5) makes for an exquisite pairing with some of that rice-packed kimbap containing sweet gravy that is sure to have a little heat. QQ tteok, sign me up!
