It seems like we’ve been hit with a slew of closures in Singapore this week. Satay by the Bay will be closing on 1 Oct 2026 for the next phase of Gardens by the Bay’s development. The 1,000-seat open-air food court will be making way for the upcoming Wetlands by the Bay development. The redevelopment will feature expanded wetlands, a new event space, a museum and, of course, a refreshed dining experience.
Satay by the Bay first opened in 2013; this closure marks the end of more than a decade of operations at the iconic dining spot. The food court is known for local dishes such as satay and barbecued chicken wings, as well as its waterfront views.
“Thank you for your support and for sharing countless meals and happy moments with us. It has been our pleasure to serve you. Join us for one last feast before we say goodbye,” says Satay by the Bay in an Instagram post. The last day of operations will be on 30 Sep 2026.
So, what can you expect from this new wetland attraction?
First, the collection of mangroves and coastal plants will exceed 600, tripling the current collection at the Kingfisher Wetlands precinct. This will enhance biodiversity around the area.
A canopy boardwalk will also extend over the site, giving visitors an immersive experience above the water. The boardwalk will serve as an improved link between Gardens by the Bay MRT station and other attractions within Bay South Garden.
Satay by the Bay will be replaced with a 2-storey dining block. The dining block is planned as the first facility to open within the new development, offering a renewed waterfront dining experience.
Besides the renewed dining spot and expanded wetlands, there’ll also be a new event space and a museum. The new community space, Glade Lawn, will act as a dedicated area for events and community activities.
In collaboration with international art collective teamLab, there’ll also be a new museum. It will feature a multi-sensory pedal kayak experience exclusive to Gardens by the Bay, along with installations.
Construction of Wetlands by the Bay is expected to begin in Q1 2027, with the development set to be completed in phases. The project is slated for completion by the end of 2028.
