Okay, let’s admit it. I’m sure we all know of that someone—be it a family member or a friend—who just doesn’t fancy anything sweet. Even more so, if it’s an over-the-top cake filled with whipped cream or covered in fancy fondant.

Frankly speaking, my mum is one such person and for the longest time, my brother and I have been scratching our heads, looking for alternatives whenever we celebrate her birthday or Mother’s Day. Having treated her to a fair share of Mother’s Day lunches and dinners and showering her with various unexpected gadgets, I finally found one of the best ways to show her our appreciation and love. It does involve a cake, however, this cake, in particular, is one I’m sure she will definitely like—a unique and Insta-worthy savoury cake.

Doubling as a satisfying meal and a celebratory symbol, The White Ombré introduced their new savoury cake selections suitable to be eaten any time of the day, with or without any call for celebration.

Specially prepared by an experienced chef in collaboration with the pastry chefs from The White Ombré, the Hainanese Chicken Rice Cake (from S$35) comes in two variations (roast or steamed chicken) that is sure to tickle the tastebuds of all Singaporeans.

Not only that, but the bakery also worked with a zi char master to create the Fried Rice With Prawn Paste Chicken or Prawn Roll Savory Cake (from S$35). Just like the base of all traditional cakes, you can choose your favourite fried rice flavour to go with the Prawn Paste Chicken or Prawn Roll. With seven types of fried rice, including the likes of Yang Zhou Fried Rice and Salted Fish Fried Rice, to choose from, there will surely be a flavour that will suit everyone in the family!
