If you’ve been looking for a new place to eat, look no further than Seng House, a new cafe that opened on 15 Dec 2022 at 214 Tanjong Katong Road.

Seng House aims to offer food that incorporates traditional Hainanese flavours into a modern and Westernised cafe scene.

The name of the cafe might sound familiar to some of you as it is the sister outlet of Seng Coffee Bar, a hidden cafe near Kembangan that was started by a father-daughter duo. Although modern in every other sense, Seng House follows a ’70s theme that can be seen through their food, music and ambience.

For starters, the sides offer selections such as Mac and Cheese (S$12.80), Charcoal-Grilled Broccolini (S$14.50), which is grilled broccolini topped with crushed hazelnuts and lemon zest, and the Yellowtail Crudo (S$18.80) that has raw yellowtail slices tossed in calamansi, ginger flower, cucumber and Red Boat fish sauce.

If you’re the breakfast type of person, Seng House has got you covered with choices like Dirty Steak Sandwich (S$28.80) and Pork Swiss Sandwich (S$23.50). You can even get Charcoal-Grilled Toast with Homemade Kaya (S$3) from their bakery.

Lunch items are also varied with Hainanese Pork Chop (S$22.50) and Claypot Chicken Rice (S$18.80) served with Seng’s family chilli recipe that dates way back to the ’70s. You could also opt for Western selections like the British Fish & Chip (S$19.80) and Sunday Roast Chicken (S$19.80).

Dinner, which is served from 6pm onwards, also provides a stellar array of dishes to choose from. It has Confit de Canard (S$25.50), which is confit duck leg with barley risotto, charred shallots and red win jus, Red Sea Barramundi (S$23.50), Grilled Argentinian Ribeye (S$38.80) and Sakura Pork Tomahawk (S$42.80).

Seems like it might be time to roll back the ’70s!
