Fans of all things Japanese, if you often find yourself faced with the dilemma of having to choose whether to indulge in a light snack with a hot cuppa Japanese artisanal tea at a Kissaten (Japanese-style tearoom) or a full-on savoury omakase meal, fret not for today’s your lucky day. The ever-busy Tiong Bahru is now home to a new Japanese spot in town—Sevens Kissaten—opened by the Sevens Group, a real estate developer.
After recently opening the Sevens Cafe at Joo Chiat, the group has expanded to another outlet in Tiong Bahru specialising in two concepts under one room. Sevens Kissaten is a Japanese-style tearoom during the day and transforms into a Kappo-style omakase, named Sevens Kappo, in the night.
A traditional Kissaten usually has a dimly-lit interior and is filled with antique furniture and old chinaware coffee cups, however, Sevens Kissaten has decided to take a modern approach by using light wooden furniture pieces, giving it a minimalistic touch. The addition of multiple Japanese lanterns hanging from the ceiling and huge glass panels give the cafe a brighter and zen look.
The cafe area closes at 5.30pm daily, leaving the five-seater bar counter open for diners who have reserved their omakase menu. Two menus will be available at Sevens Kappo; a nine course set for S$238 or an add-on menu at S$280.
