Check Out Unique Ice Cream Flavours Like Ham & Pu Er Now Available At Shang Social In Jewel Changi Airport

It seems like weird food creations have been trending lately. First, there was a Century Egg Cheesecake, then an Oreo Cheese Crab. Now, another contender has joined the list.

To combat the ever-unbearable Singapore weather, Shang Social (香聚) in Jewel Changi Airport has come up with a new dessert.

They’ve created an ice cream flavour unlike any other: Yunnan Ham 云南火腿 (S$5+).

I’ll be honest, the notion of incorporating ham in ice cream truly sounded absurd. But being the adventurous foodies that we were, we decided to try it for ourselves.

At first glance, the takeaway soft serve looked like any other vanilla-flavoured ice creams out there. However, its white hue proved to be all too deceiving.

To our utter shock, the ice cream really tasted like ham! With salty notes and a hint of smokiness, it left us momentarily speechless.

Shang Social serves up an intriguing Yunnan Pu Er 云南普洱 (S$5+) ice cream too. This flavour carried a strong bitterness, as well as subtle floral notes which made it surprisingly palatable.

If you’d like to try both flavours, I’d recommend going for the Twist 双味 (S$6+), which was what we got. It comes with both flavours in a cup.

The flavours actually complemented each other, to our delight. The distinct herbaceous taste of the Yunnan Pu Er managed to mask the savoury flavour of the Yunnan Ham.

That said, though, the steep prices of these desserts meant that it was a one-time experience. We probably wouldn’t splurge on them again.
