The closure of Sim Lim Square Bak Chor Mee came so suddenly. With no announcement, regular patrons started walking into a vacant stall space that the minced meat noodle stall used to occupy.
That led to a spur of concern towards the status of their favourite bak chor mee stall: what happened to them? As of 31 Dec 2022, the ever-popular Sim Lim Square Bak Chor Mee has closed down. JJ Lin will surely be devastated to know the news… he even brought Jay Chou here to try out their stall!
Their closure sent netizens into panic mode. With no head nor tail, they weren’t sure if they were closed for good or whether they relocated.
However, Sim Lim Bak Chor Mee announced on their Facebook page that they will be taking a temporary break before they find a new location. Those who were afraid that you wouldn’t be able to taste their tasty noodles again, you’re assured that they will be back with updates.
The family-run bak chor mee stall was brought to light when they opened in Broadway Food Court.
First ran by the grandparents of the family, now, second-generation owners have took over. They have been serving good ol’ bowls of bak chor mee since 2 decades ago, so you know they are the old birds around here.
Since then, heaps of regular customers have been coming back time after time. With its hot popularity, the estimated waiting time is usually 15 minutes.
People might call this the rojak of bak chor mee because of its random ingredients, but with trust, you’ll be surprise by its taste factor. A bowl of Bak Chor Mee (S$6) includes prawns, ngoh hiang, fishballs, fishcake, fried and boiled wantons, pork slices and mushrooms. Their version is slightly more vinegary that usual, but they still retain a good spice with its chilli sauce.
What did I tell you? They include a myriad of ingredients for such an affordable price, it’s a no brainer that they have so many regular familiar faces. Previously, they even had abalones included in their bowls!
It isn’t easy to say goodbye to familiar spaces and people, but like they mentioned in their farewell post, they look forward to new beginnings. Keep up on their socials for updates about their relocation!
