The popular 2022 Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient Sing Lung HK Cheong Fun on 1 Beach Road announced its abrupt closure. On 30 Dec 2023, they posted on their Facebook with a simple thanks to their diners for support and that they would be permanently closed.
More customers began to notice when a poster on Can Eat! SG queried about the stall. Said poster noticed the stall had closed up shop and wondered if they moved. The post later received updates regarding the circumstances.
Last year, plenty of hawker closures happened due to rent increases. For Sing Lung HK Cheong Fun, the reasoning behind it was far more disheartening. The 60-year-old owner Kong Yiu Man further explained in an interview with Shin Min.
He had been feeling unwell as of late and after a doctor’s visit towards the end of 2023. It was just him and his wife, Chan Pik Yung, managing the stall. So, both he and his wife had to think about the future of their stall.

With half of the manpower requiring rest and recuperation, the duo decided to close after some careful consideration.
No doubt, regulars will dearly miss Sing Lung HK Cheong Fun. They made the menu items wallet-friendly and freshly cooked on order. Their Plain Cheong Fun (S$3) is doused in sesame, peanut, soy sauce and sweet sauce, with many reviews praising the silkiness and softness.
You could also get other variations like Prawn Cheong Fun (S$4.50), Char Siew Cheong Fun (S$4.20), Mushroom Cheong Fun (S$3.80) and Chee Cheong Fun (S$2.80). Aside from chee cheong fun, they also offer other comfort food favourites like the Century Egg Pork Congee (S$3).
Mr Kong gave no current indication that Sing Lung HK Cheong Fun would reopen. For now, he plans to prioritise his health. Down the road, he’ll see if he wants to continue doing it, or perhaps a part-time job. Whatever it may be, we wish him all the best.
