What a great time to be a Singaporean—we’re not allowed to go overseas and enjoy our favourite foods, but it appears that one by one, our favourite foods are taking vacations and arriving on our sunny shores. The novelty of LA fast food chain Eggslut hasn’t even died down yet, and now, Hong Kong sushi chain Sushi Raku is opening its first overseas outlet right here in the heart of sunny Singapore, at Raffles City.

Sushi Raku has four outlets in Hong Kong, with its first overseas outlet opening Sunday, 12 September 2021 at Raffles City Shopping Centre. Raku can be translated from Japanese to mean ‘heaven in mouth’, and boasts of contemporary casual cuisine and offers izakaya dishes, sake, and draft beer.

Customers can expect a variety of specially curated sets including their Raku Combo #1 (S$48), which consists of four pieces of tuna, yellowtail, salmon, albacore, and white fish each, or their Raku Combo #2 (S$81), which is an upgraded, more substantial version of Combo #1 that comes with shrimp & vegetable tempura, the chef’s choice of eight-piece sushi, and a Sushi Raku special roll.
Sushi Raku’s Special Rolls are the ones to look out for if you’re looking to deviate from your usual sushi orders. Take your pick from the Raku Abalone (S$15), the Sunshine (S$16), a Cali roll with salmon and spicy tuna, or give their Mango Tango (S$15) a shot, filled with spicy crab and cucumber, and topped with tuna and mango. There’s even a Vegan Sushi Set (S$19) for your foray into plant-based sushi, which consists of a six-piece set of cucumber rolls, inari, asparagus or sprout, avocado, gobo, shiitake mushrooms, gourd, and radish pickle.
