Great value dining in a relaxed contemporary setting.
The last time I visited the Sentosa based Movenpick was to indulge in their delicious afternoon tea. Whilst that dining option is still going strong, I was actually back to sample their latest lunchtime offering; a 3 course western set lunch at the bargain price of $29 (with a Groupon voucher).
Lunch is hosted in the hotels flagship restaurant – Tablescape. It’s modern, opulent and provides a relaxed yet sophisticated backdrop for a long lazy lunch. Reclining in to one of their huge luxurious chairs will make you feel as though the bustle of Singapore living is light years away.
The new set lunch provides a choice between two starters and three main courses, with a dessert to round things off if you still have space. We were lucky enough to try the entire menu.
Roasted cherry tomato cream soup
Do not be fooled into thinking this is another boring bowl of tomato soup. Elevated by the addition of crab meat, pine nuts and truffle oil this is a decadent, creamy bowl of comforting goodness. The tomato base is rich and fruity, and the entire dish is seasoned well.
Sauteed prawns on organic spinach
If you fancy a healthier start to lunch, this prawn salad is a light, fresh way to begin any meal. The prawns were cooked very well, retaining their juicy sweetness. The menu described the accompanying salsa as spicy but comprised of pineapple, orange, raisins and thin slices of olive, it lacked any heat what so ever. It was, however, fresh and zingy, complimenting the sweetness of the prawns regardless.
Timbale of pan-seared New Zealand ocean hoki fish
This generous portion of hoki was an enjoyable main course. The fish itself was meaty in texture and mild in flavour. Layered with creamed spinach and drizzled with a cream sauce, on paper it sounded as though this might be a little too rich. In reality this was not the case.
Of our three main courses this definitely felt like the lightest option. Shout out to the oft overlooked side vegetables, our carrot and tender stem broccoli were delicious!
Maple BBQ U.S. top choice beef short ribs
For carnivores and cavemen, these beef short ribs are another generously portioned main course. The meat is covered in a sweet, tangy BBQ glaze and is then charred over a grill. The meat was soft and juicy if a little on the fatty side for my personal taste.
Served with a deliciously smoky, sweet ratatouille it was the perfect accompaniment to the huge slabs of meat. Despite it’s size, the lack of bloating carbs (ok, there are a few roasted new potatoes but not enough to bulk the meal out) make this a great lunch option.
Cajun spiced roasted farm spring chicken
First things first; these chips are amazing and highly addictive. Coated with chilli flakes they are spicy, crispy on the outside and cloud-like fluffy in the centre. I’d order this dish just for another serving of these.
The chicken legs are actually very good too, they were nicely plump and juicy with a crisp skin. The creole tomato sauce was thick, rich and sweet with a touch of smokiness creeping through at the end.
Warm apple crumble pie
What can I say? I just loved this dessert. The apple within the pie was beautifully spiced and soft whilst retaining a slight crunch. The pastry was crumbly and perfectly cooked. The tart raspberry sauce was fruity and really brought the whole dish together. The contrast between warm apple tart and cold ice cream is a favourite combination of mine and did not disappoint. A great way to round off a fantastic menu.
Whichever combination you choose from Tablescape’s new set menu, it will not disappoint. Be sure to head over there quickly whilst the Groupon voucher is valid – at $29 per head (usual price is $76) it cannot be beaten for quality and value. Drinks aren’t included in this price but there is a reasonably priced selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options to choose from.
Tablescape is suitable for any occasion, be it a romantic lunch, eats with your girlfriends or a family affair. Grab yourself a Groupon voucher and head on over to Sentosa to take advantage of this awesome deal.
