If you have been keeping up with the news recently, you might know that Texas Chicken has brought back its popular Sambal Chicken (S$10.80 for a 2pc meal) for a limited period of time.

This time, Texas Chicken has upped the stakes by introducing two all-new items to complement the Sambal Chicken.  I simply had to go down and try their Chicken Rice (additional S$1.20) and Cendol Ice Cream (S$2.50).

I must say that the Sambal Chicken was a little disappointing. While it had the fragrance and mouth-watering aroma of sambal chilli, the chicken was on the bonier side.

The crispy texture paired nicely with the spiciness of the sambal. The sambal was a little on the sweeter side and its spice level has been knocked down a notch or two, presumably to cater to a wider range of taste buds.

Overall, the Sambal Chicken is not bad – I can see why people would come here to try it. If given the option, I would buy it again too, but I probably won’t be travelling too far just for this item.

The Chicken Rice was surprisingly good too. It was a little clumpier and softer, but it had the unmistakable hint of ginger and light soy sauce. I must admit that it’s a little on the pricier side though, with a pretty meagre serving size for S$1.20.

The Cendol Ice Cream was one of my favourites. The sweet gula melaka matches that of vanilla ice cream really well, so there’s no surprise that this combination works out. The serving of green flour jelly and red beans was quite generous, which made this rather authentic-tasting, albeit on the sweeter side.
