The Glasshouse opens their 2nd outlet at Neil Road— the next Instagram-crazed cafe?

Whether you want to snap pictures or take aesthetic food shots, The Glasshouse is certainly the place for you. For the uninitiated, the original outlet at CHIJMES is entirely made out of glass doors, earning a name for itself as one of the most Instagrammable cafes in Singapore. Recently, the Instagram-famous cafe opened its doors to a second outlet at Neil Road. Stationed between Outram Park and Tanjong Pagar MRT station, it is at the juncture that used to be the space that belonged to The Lokal.

Now that they have taken over, its interior differs from the previous glasshouse aesthetic, but still follows through with a vibe of sophistication and elegance.

From stone-white walls to high ceilings and even forest-green marbled tables, the cafe follows an earthy theme. It follows a colour palette of brown, green and white hues, and has glass windows that expose natural light into the space. A gorgeous space!

Not only do they serve up a space that is alluring, some of their dishes are good too. Unfortunately, their hot kitchen has not opened yet as they are still in the process of a soft launch. However, if you are in the area, you could drop by for the coffees that The Glasshouse fans all so love! Or if you’re looking for a bite, they have pastries like Banana Loaf (S$8) and their Classic Plain Croissants (S$6) as well. Pair a cup of coffee together with a pastry and you’re good to go.

One of the staples that I hope they would consider to have in this outlet is the Grilled Cheese Sandwich (S$15) — toasted sourdough with the filling of cheesy emmental, red cheddar and brie. With a tomato relish by the side, it adds a refreshing tang to the sandwich that can’t go wrong. It’s a classic for me personally, as I love my bread with cheese. Furthermore, their sourdoughs are known to be artisanally made.

For those who require protein or are more health conscious, one can hope for the Sweet Potato Chilli Chicken Bowl (S$18). The chicken is roasted to a dark char, leaving a salty aftertaste that balances out the avocado mash. Sprinkled with chick peas, roasted cherry tomatoes and basil, it makes for a healthy bowl for those who like to stay away from carbohydrates. It seems like a dish that I would order when I want to grab a quick lunch on my own.

The CBD is an area known for its stretches of food, drinks and coffees. Tucked in the midst of all the other cafes and restaurants, I believe that The Glasshouse is a good addition to the whole stretch. Just in time for the newest Maxwell MRT, I guess! I wouldn’t be surprised to see everyone flocking over.
