My Primary 4 teacher confiscated my Trolls pencil topper because I was spending too much time combing its crazy purple hair. I just wanted to share that to establish my credentials as a long-time Trolls fan, fully qualified to write this review.

You can imagine my delight when I heard that Anti:dote at Fairmont Singapore was transforming into Troll Village for a Tea Experience available in Southeast Asia for the very first time. The selection of sweet and savoury tea treats will be given the Anti:dote treatment, presented in their classic chest of drawers.

Every delectable part of the spread is based on a Trolls character. It begins with a Trolls Mocktail (S$18) which comes with pink cotton candy hair. Empty the decanter of lemonade over its tresses and it dissolves into the mint-infused concoction below, magically transforming it blue. Science!

When Anti:dote’s white chest of drawers arrives, make for the freshly-baked scones to make the most of their warmth. Your choices of spreads are Madagascan vanilla, lemon butter curd and strawberry marmalade.

However, the odds are that you will be wildly distracted by the colour and detail of the sweet treats sitting atop the chest. Crafted in exquisite detail to recreate the world of Trolls, each one is a wonder to explore.

little pots made of chocolate

Perhaps the most enjoyable of them was the Trolls Popping Pot with Cocoa Cremeux and Chocolate Crunch. See those little pebbles of ‘soil’? They are little crackling bits of chocolate-covered goodness! From this rich soil grow plants of various sizes, from little buds to swaying stalks. The care that went into creating every petal and last bit of ‘pollen’ is mind boggling.

If you like caramel, macaroons or both, make straight for the Sea Salt Caramel Macaroons. Each bite devolves into an addictive chewy sweetness.

A balance of savoury awaits in the drawer below. The Sakura Chicken Beetroot Brioche is my pick here. It reminded me of a traditional pau but with a modern twist. Despite a description that did not immediately appeal to my palate, the Truffle Egg and Mixed Fungus Mille Feuille turned out to be a close second to the ‘pau’.

I would be remiss to not mention the wide— and imaginative— selection of fine teas on the menu. In stark contrast to their true nature, my dining companion opted for Sweet Innocence. The pleasant scent of mango wafting from the teapot was irresistible.
