Most of us want good, affordable food right on our doorstep. Unfortunately for Tua Keat Bak Kut Teh, it is tucked away at 721 Clementi West Street 2 (New Century Food House). With the stall quite a distance even from the nearest MRT station, it is facing impending closure unless things start to look up soon.

Due to its ulu location, Mr Tua Keat’s 3-month-old food stall hardly sees any new foot traffic. The compounding daily losses mean that time is running out for the stall to turn a profit.

This dire situation continues despite attempts on his end that include lowering the cost of his dishes from the prices he set when the stall opened. Some prices have been lowered by around S$4 to S$6.50, with the Large size of the Bak Kut Teh (S$12) being the only dish at a relatively high price. It would be sad to see such an affordable place go.

What Mr Tua Keat sells is in the name, of course. He offers clay pot dishes, with the stall’s signature dish being the Dry Pot Bak Kut Teh (S$5). Online reviews of the stall hold up the signature as a highlight. The umami-filled Fried Porridge (S$4) is another dish that people have written that they enjoyed here.
Word is that Tua Keat Bak Kut Teh is planning to relocate soon. Until then, if you’d like to be this man’s hero, do make the trip or order on available platforms. Make this a heart-warming soupy ending!
