Daebak! Korean fried chicken brand Waker Chicken is opening its third outlet on 18 February 2022, so Westies can enjoy a taste of its authentic fried chicken without travelling its existing outlets in Commonwealth and Bedok.
Its newest outlet will be located at 347 Bukit Batok Street 34, which is a four-minute walk from Bukit Gombak MRT.
Waker Chicken was started by Noh Tae Woo and Kim Jinho, two native Koreans living in Singapore. The brand is actually owned by Kim’s uncle in Seoul, and they import all its ingredients directly from Korea to ensure that the fried chicken they serve is truly authentic.
The chicken is seasoned and brined overnight for maximum flavour, and each piece is fried to order in a 100% vegetable oil blend that contains unsaturated fats.
Waker Chicken offers four main flavours on its menu, all of which can be ordered in half (seven pieces) or whole (14 pieces) sizes.
Go for its Original Crispy (S$13 for half, $25 for whole), or if you’re feeling indulgent, try its best-selling Honey Butter (S$15 for half, S$28 for whole), which uses honey butter powder and a premium batter mix directly imported from Korea.
While the prices might be a little on the high end at first glance, you’ll actually be paying about S$1.80 to S$2 per piece after doing some quick math, which seems pretty reasonable considering its freshness and quality.
Its other two flavours are Sweet Spicy and Soy Sauce (both priced at S$14 for half, S$27 for whole). Waker Chicken also serves chicken tenders, fillets, fries and other bites.
Dining alone? Go for its Wings instead, which are priced at S$6 for three pieces.
