It’s no secret that since the Singaporean government called for major entertainment joints like cinemas, bars and clubs to cease operations, many of us were left with nothing much to do. Add on the circuit breaker being implemented, and we’re pretty much confined to our houses at least until May 2020.
Because of this global pandemic, many F&B industries have suffered a massive blow, and that includes Singapore’s nightlife. If you have a passion for nightlife and still want to “visit” a bar during this circuit breaker, try William Grant & Sons’ 1887 Virtual Bar on Zoom to show your support for local watering holes.
A Scottish family-owned distiller and distributor, William Grant & Sons distills Scotch whisky amongst many other categories of spirits. As such, they plan to shake up #StayHome routines with the idea to #supportlocal.
This platform will feature weekly guest shifts hosted by some of your favourite bartenders accompanied by William Grant & Sons regional ambassadors, Charmaine Thio and Brett Bayly. This Scottish distiller aims to help the local bartending community “stay open” both virtually and in real life. This means that William Grant & Sons will be matching every dollar the public donates to these bars.
The first shift was launched on 9 April 2020 with Sam Wong, the Head Bartender of Shin Gi Tai. Keep a lookout for your favourite bar these subsequent weeks—you might just be able to catch your favourite bar on stream. The full list of shifts can be found on various Facebook pages, like Glenfiddich, Hendrick’s Gin, Monkey Shoulder and The Balvenie to name a few.
Customers can make donations by purchasing a digital cocktail off the menu. Every S$20 donated entitles them to a digital drink voucher they’ll be able to use at the bar they donated to when it reopens.
Local bars interested in being part of this event are welcome to register as well.
So go on, pour yourself a glass of wine, sit back and relax at home in the company of your favourite bartenders. Let’s all do our part to keep Singapore’s nightlife alive!
