Halal Wong Fu Fu launches XL gua bao, Taiwanese beef noodles & KitKat desserts, also has free-flow BBT

Tis (really is) the season to be jolly for chocolate lovers and fans of Taiwanese food. Wong Fu Fu, known for its Taiwan-inspired hotplates, mini-buffet and unlimited bubble tea drinks bar, has recently launched a slew of delectable dishes ahead of the much-anticipated year-end celebrations. Among these are limited-time desserts crafted with KitKat wafer bars.

To the ranks of their menu, Wong Fu Fu has added 4 truly colossal XL Gua Baos and 12 different Taiwan-inspired beef noodles of the dry and soup varieties.

We first tried Madam Wong’s Braised Beef Noodle Soup with Truffles (S$15.90). While the beef was well-seasoned, it required a bit of chewing and I was left wanting more well before the noodles were finished. The truffles were definitely necessary to bolster the soup’s lack of body and flavour. Some bok choy, mushrooms, corn, thinly-sliced daikon and radish round out the ingredients.

The Scallion Noodle with Grilled Chicken (Dry) (S$12.90) fared much better, especially with chilli. The scallions (sourced from Yilan, Taiwan) provide the occasional scented crunch amid soft (slightly overcooked) noodles, with the better-portioned chicken’s savoury skin making up for an identically weak soup.

The bao are supersized (3x) to accommodate equally enormous patties sandwiched between them, like the Fried Battered Fish with Mentaiko (S$14.90). Each bao‘s fried surface ensures a consistent decadence alongside the sweet mentaiko sauce drizzled over the crispy fish. Every order comes with sweet potato fries that add a fragrant sweetness to the meal.

Those who prefer a more savoury burger will enjoy the Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken with Cereal (S$13.90). We found its egg yolk sauce a bit heavy on the palate, overcoming the cereal’s intended sugary crunch (not that the Chinese burger loses its crisp to the thick sauce in any way).

Do note that access to the Mini Salad & Soup Bar comes with either the beef noodles or XL gua baos from 11.30am – 5pm (except on eves of public holidays & public holidays).

Sweet tooth aficionados have plenty to pick from to satisfy those saccharine cravings, courtesy of Nestlé Professional. From 28 Nov to 31 Dec 2023, Wong Fu Fu’s ‘A Taste of X’mas with KitKat’ dessert spread has given milk shaved ice, macarons and even log cake an appropriate KitKat spin.

We had the Chocolate Banana Milk Shaved Ice (S$13.90), served with a saucer of chocolate syrup to be drizzled over the tower of milk shaved ice. Topped with a bar of KitKat and a slice of deep-fried banana, the bowl contains more ingredients like jelly and chocolate pieces underneath.

If you’re not too much of a chocolate person, the limited-time menu also has Mint Milk Shaved Ice (S$12.90), Strawberry Milk Shaved Ice (S$13.90) and Cempedak Milk Shaved Ice (S$14.90).

Macarons are available as Original, Mint, Cempedak, and Strawberry (S$3.20++) flavours, with a minimum purchase of 2 pieces.

And let’s not forget about the Mini Log Cake (S$10.90) made with KitKat, thoughtfully downsized for couples or smaller groups to tackle.

Besides their mini buffet, Wong Fu Fu also offers free-flow bubble tea on their dinner menu past 5pm. Yes, that means their toppings of grape jelly, tapioca pearls, milk pudding, etc. are unlimited. For more details, refer here.
