Popular seafood and pasta hawker stall Xcelyn Fish.Mussels.Pasta (formerly known as Xcelyn @ The Patio) at 1018 Sembawang Road has just announced that it will close after serving their last plate on 25 Oct 2025.

The closure was announced in a Facebook post, where the owner thanked his customers for their loyalty and support. He also claimed that it may not be the end, as he was thinking about starting a home-based business after taking a brief hiatus.

Xcelyn first opened on 17 Aug 2020, helmed by Chef Xcel. Its name came from a combination of Xcel’s and his wife’s name, Jackelyn. After a 3-year restaurant venture, Xcel downsized and opened a hawker stall, keeping the same name and spirit.

Xcelyn closure - fish and chips

Xcelyn distinguishes itself by serving sea bass, instead of dory fish like most seafood stalls. This can be seen in their Xcelyn Fish & Chips (S$13.50), with a fish so big that it takes up the entire board. In fact, it’s so good that several reviews on Google stated it converted them from dory to sea bass lovers.

Xcelyn closure - mussels in a pot

We also loved their Mussels In A Pot (S$13) with the choice of NonyaGarlic Chilli, and White Wine sauce. The unique inclusion of the Nonya sauce gave the mussels a spicy and tangy assam taste that reminded us of assam fish.

When we spoke to Chef Xcel, he discussed the circumstances that led to his decision. Xcelyn was already struggling since the start of 2023, but he hung onto hope that it would improve. However, it had reached a point where the business was unsustainable.

“(We) wanted to sign for another year to see how, but business was really bad, up to the point where we decided might as well give up and focus on other matters,” he said. You have a few more days to savour Xcelyn’s excellent seafood one last time before they shut down after 25 Oct 2025.
