What I tried from Fresher Dinners
To start things off, I had to go for the Signature Dry Laksa and Grilled Chicken in Satay Sauce dinner, which was voted Customers’ Choice— I had to see what the fuss was about.
I slathered the peanut sauce over the neatly-arranged grilled chicken slices and went straight for the taste test.
The meat was tender and the charred skin added a delightful smokiness. The tau kwa pieces were pillowy and soft while the chunky, robust peanut sauce took the experience up a notch. If I had closed my eyes, I would’ve thought that it came from an actual satay hawker.

The mini cubes of cucumber and shallots also aided in reducing the richness. Overall, a well-balanced dish— 2 thumbs up!
Even before I tucked into the Signature Dry Laksa, its appearance looked very gao and inviting. The lemony hints of daun kesum perfumed every strand of thick bee hoon, and the robustness of the laksa spices packed a punch without being jelak. The prawns were also plump and fresh.
I was impressed by how a tingkat version can be on par with some of my favourite dry laksa spots in Singapore.
I was transported to the Middle East for a moment with the Chorizo Tomato Shakshuka with Poached Eggs & Bell Peppers dinner. It came with Grilled Sourdough and Spinach Herb Rice that was filled with slices of shiitake mushroom.
The made-from-scratch Grilled Sourdough was fragrant with its buttered surface and slight char. I enjoyed double dipping them into the shakshuka while attempting to break into the soft, creamy poached eggs. The smoky notes coming from the cumin and paprika coupled with the red peppers produced an addictive alluring taste that intrigued my senses.
The chicken chorizo sausages were tasty and juicy, and the fact that they were hormone- and nitrate-free gave me peace of mind.
After taking the first bite of the Spinach Herb Rice, I realised that the ‘missing’ spinach, which I had mistaken for chopped parsley, added an interesting texture and fresh taste to the flavourful rice. The mushrooms were earthy and added a nice touch.
By transferring your dishes onto nice plates and adding a candle, you can easily mimic a romantic candlelight dinner setting with your partner.
I wasn’t having high expectations for the Honey Glazed Salmon but boy, was I wrong! It was moist and smoky, with a burst of sweetness from the honey.
The couscous was cooked and seasoned to perfection and the pumpkin cubes melted in my mouth like mashed potatoes. I loved that the broccoli maintained a slight crunch, adding a lovely texture to the dish.
The Pesto Penne came with an additional portion of pesto and the poached runny eggs were packed separately. I was addicted to the nuttiness of the pesto and its light basil herbiness which coated each piece of penne.
The additional topping of grounded nuts added texture while the cherry tomatoes added refreshing bursts of acidity. After I burst the runny egg and released the flowy golden yolk, every spoonful became extra luscious— I was in culinary heaven.
Final thoughts
I always had the impression that catered meals are dull, tasteless and forgettable— that all changed when I tried the sumptuous spread from Fresher Dinners.
