Free-flow buffets are a Singaporean weakness, but what if you include a mookata with it? Enter 131 Mookata, a mookata specialist that just opened its 2nd outlet at 28 Kelantan Road. What’s more, you only have to pay S$19.90 per person!

This eatery may be hidden away in unassuming corners of Singapore, but the noise and fanfare ringing out daily will certainly attract you. They have over 50 ingredients to choose from, ranging from classic steamboat choices to seafood surprises.

You don’t have to worry about the food running out (unlike certain buffets), as they refill everything promptly.

I’ve never seen a steamboat or mookata stall offer as wide a selection of meats as 131 Mookata. Customers love their Signature 131 Thai Pork and Soy Ginger Pork Belly, which they say is very well marinated. Meat lovers like me are sure to indulge in this fine selection. Do note that they don’t offer any beef options.

Call me basic, but I’m a massive sucker for simple wantons and dumplings at any steamboat place. They seem simple and unassuming at first glance, but these little pockets are made with love. They also offer a variety of clams and mussels in different shapes and sizes.

You’ll be impressed by the sheer size of their prawns and Australian crayfish, too. In fact, the crayfish is very much the highlight of the buffet.

Finally, their sauces. There are mainstays like garlic, cheese sauce, and chilli padi. Don’t be afraid to challenge the heat of their Thai green chilli sauce and red chilli sauce, it’ll make you flush red. It pairs very well with most of the meats they offer.

If mookata isn’t your thing, don’t worry. 131 Mookata also has a lunch buffet on weekdays 10am – 2pm at their Kelantan outlet, costing only S$7 per person. Dishes like Shanghai Fried Rice, Sambal Sotong, and Prawn Rolls are all mainstays. Do keep in mind that you have 2 hours to indulge in all delights, and each table needs at least 2 people, so bring a friend!
